I 2019 gjennomførte IUG et oppdrag fra Norge i samarbeid med Strømmestiftelsen, som gikk ut på å vurdere og optimalisere en prosess hvor plastavfall blir smeltet om til skolepulter. Rapporten for dette oppdraget kan du lese her.

Videre var målet å sende et team med frivillige ingeniører til Vest-Afrika i 2020, noe som dessverre ble umulig både på grunn av COVID-19 og politiske uroligheter i Mali.

For at fremdriften i prosjektet ikke skulle stoppe helt opp, ble vi enige om å fortsette arbeidet fra Norge. Målet denne gangen var å utarbeide opplæringsmateriale i HMS og Lean/5S, slik at smelteprosessen blir så trygg som mulig for de lokale arbeiderne som skal lage skolepultene.

Dette oppdraget pågår fortsatt, og teamet er en stor og engasjert gjeng som består av både maskin- og kjemiingeniører, illustratører og pedagoger.

Design of HMS and Lean/5S for a safer smelting process. 

In 2019, EWB carried out an assignment from Norway in collaboration with The Strømme Foundation, which involved assessing and optimizing a process where plastic waste is melted into school desks. You can read the report for this assignment here. Furthermore, the goal was to send a team of volunteer engineers to West Africa in 2020, which unfortunately became impossible both due to COVID-19 and political instability in Mali. 

So that the progress of the project would not stop completely, we agreed to continue the work from Norway. The goal this time was to prepare training material in HMS and Lean / 5S, so that the smelting process is as safe as possible for the local workers who will make the school desks. 

This mission is still ongoing, and the team is a large and committed group consisting of both mechanical and chemical engineers, illustrators and educators.
