Fra februar til mai 2023 var IUGs faggruppe Bygg & infrastruktur inolvert i planlegging, gjennomføring og kvalitetssikring av bygget Youth Empowerment Centre, hjertet i TRAX Ghana sitt arbeid for utdanning og likestilling.
Bakgrunn
IUG har i flere år samarbeidet med TRAX Ghana som driver et senter for unge i Nord Ghana. TRAX Ghana jober for utdanning, likestilling og matsikkerhet. Arbeidet er senteret rundt drift av en geitegård og undervisning, og i mai 2022 ble det oppført et drivhus for produksjon av grønnsaker.
Om oppdraget
Videre utvikling av senterert inkluderte oppføringen av et Youth Empowerment centre, hvor IUG deltok i planlegging, gjennomføring og kvalitetssikring. Driften av senteret vil gagne det lokale samfunnet og bidra til utvikling på følgende måter:
- Å eliminere tenåringsgraviditet som årsak til frafall fra skolen eller tidlige ekteskap. Det vil adressere den nåværende kjønnsubalansen i samfunnet og ha innvirkning på kommende generasjoner.
- Å tilby tilleggsutdanning sikrer at elever fra underpriviligerte hjem får samme kvalitet på utdanning og like muligheter til å gå på de beste videregående skolene.
- Å tilby alternative levebrød til ungdom som har sluttet på skolen vil stoppe den generasjonsoverførte fattigdommen og bidra til å sikre en bedre fremtid.
Senteret ble offisielt åpnet den 23. november i en storstilt åpningsseremoni hvor blant annet den norske ambassadøren til Ghana var til stede.

From February to May 2023, EWB's technical group "Building & Infrastructure" was involved in the planning, execution, and quality assurance of the construction of the Youth Empowerment Centre, the heart of TRAX Ghana's work for education and equality.
Background
For several years, IUG has collaborated with TRAX Ghana, which operates a center for youth in Northern Ghana. TRAX Ghana works for education, equality, and food security. The work revolves around the operation of a goat farm and teaching, and in May 2022, a greenhouse for vegetable production was erected.
About the assignment
Further development of TRAX Ghana included the construction of a Youth Empowerment Centre, where EWB participated in the planning, implementation, and quality assurance. The operation of the center will benefit the local community and contribute to development in the following ways:
- Eliminating teenage pregnancy as a cause of school dropout or early marriage. It will address the current gender imbalance in society and impact future generations.
- Providing additional education ensures that students from underprivileged homes receive the same quality of education and equal opportunities to attend the best high schools.
- Offering alternative livelihoods to youth who have dropped out of school will halt the intergenerational transmission of poverty and contribute to securing a better future.
The center was officially opened on November 23 in a grand opening ceremony where, among others, the Norwegian ambassador to Ghana was present.
