On request from NITO, Engineers Without Borders (EWB) has supported the initiative to set up a small-scale plastic recycling container in Dar es Salaam, in co-operation with local project partner Tanzania Explorer. In the beginning of 2022, two EWB engineers contributed with technical expertise and built and installed machines for shredding, extruding and injection molding, in support of and in parallel with an innovation contest for NITO’s student members.
January this year, NITO launched a new innovation competition for engineering students, with the challenge: Based on the existing machinery, or with feasible upgrades given available time and resources, develop products made from recycled plastic that can be sold locally.
Arnfinn and Marius spent two weeks on assignment in Dar-es-Salaam contributing with technical expertise; optimizing existing machinery, installing new and giving support and mentoring the winning team of NITO students during the project execution.
This presentation will be in English.
