Eco Moyo Education Centre
Eco Moyo er en privat grunnskole i Kenya som gir gratis utdanning til barn og unge fra 4 til 15 år.
Skolen ligger i Kilifi, et sårbart område preget av fattigdom, hvor mange familier ikke har råd til å sende barna sine på skole. I overkant av 200 barn og unge fra nærområdet får undervisning av dyktige lærere hos Eco Moyo. Barna får viktig og grunnleggende kunnskap som gir muligheter for videre utdanning og jobb, samtidig som skolen sikrer to måltider om dagen og sørger for trygge rammer og en sosial arena som er viktig for hele lokalsamfunnet. Oppdraget
Bakgrunnen for ønsket om en strategisk plan er skolens hurtige vekst, som gjør det nødvendig å sammenstille framtidige behov og se helhetlig på utviklingen slik at skolen går en bærekraftig tid i møte. Den strategiske planen tar for seg arealbruk knyttet til skolefunksjoner, landskapsmessige tiltak og skolehager, og fremtidige behov i infrastruktur som vannforsyning, energiforsyning og overvannshåndtering.
Planen redegjør også kortfattet om organisatoriske og finansielle behov. Det er prosjektgruppens mål at den strategiske planen skal være et arbeidsverktøy for skolen, og at dokumentet skal gi et overblikk i skolens planer og behov på en lettfattelig og oversiktelig måte, og at den skal inspirere aktører til engasjement i skolens videre utvikling.
AUG har hatt prosjektlederansvaret og organisert arbeidet. Prosjektet har vært delt inn i to faser. Første del handlet om å skape oversikt over skolens behov og utfordringer samt avgrense prosjektets rammer. Andre del gikk mer konkret inn på arealbruk og vurderinger knyttet til skolens infrastruktur hvor IUG bidro med fagkompetanse og kvalitetssikring gjennom sitt fagutvalg.

Eco Moyo Education Centre (Eco Moyo) with Lindsay Sanner, in collaboration with Architects Without Borders Norway (AUG) and Engineers Without Borders (EWB), has prepared a strategic plan for the further development of the Eco Moyo Education Centre.
Eco Moyo is a private primary school in Kenya that provides free education to children and young people from 4 to 15 years old.
The school is located in Kilifi, a vulnerable area characterized by poverty, where many families cannot afford to send their children to school. More than 200 children and young people from the surrounding area are taught by skilled teachers at Eco Moyo. The children gain important and basic knowledge that provides opportunities for further education and employment, while the school ensures two meals a day and ensures a safe environment and a social arena that is important for the entire local community.
The assignment
The reason for the desire for a strategic plan is the school's rapid growth, which makes it necessary to compare future needs and look holistically at developments so that the school will be sustainable. The strategic plan addresses land use related to school functions, landscaping and school gardens, and future needs in infrastructure such as water supply, energy supply and stormwater management.
The plan also outlines organizational and financial needs. It is the project group's goal that the strategic plan should be a working tool for the school, and that the document should provide an overview of the school's plans and needs in an easy-to-understand and transparent manner, and that it should inspire actors to engage in the school's further development.
AUG has had project management responsibility and organized the work. The project has been divided into two phases. The first part was about creating an overview of the school's needs and challenges as well as delimiting the project's framework.The second part dealt more specifically with land use and assessments related to the school's infrastructure, where EWB contributed with professional expertise and quality assurance through its academic committee.
