13.02.2026 Market Dialogue - VCREW (Value Creation with Reduced Emissions from Waste)
VCREW - Value Creation with Reduced Emissions from Waste
Supported by Innovation Norway, VCREW addresses a concrete and urgent challenge in low-resource and humanitarian contexts: plastic waste that is currently burned or openly dumped, causing serious health, environmental, and climate impacts. The project aims to identify simple, safe, and scalable solutions that reduce harmful emissions, improve plastic waste management, and at the same time create local value and livelihood opportunities.

Practical information
Date: Friday, February 13, 2026
Time: 09:00–11:30 (Doors open at 09:00 for coffee and light refreshments. The dialogue begins at 09:30.)
Location: Mesh Youngstorget, Møllergata 6 / online participation available
What is this Market Dialogue?
The Market Dialogue is an early-stage, open conversation where we:
- share insights from needs assessments and previously evaluated concepts
- present the contextual constraints and operating conditions in locations such as Dadaab (Kenya) and Butambala District (Uganda)
- invite discussion on potential technologies, products, system solutions, and business models
The dialogue is intended to provide a broad overview of what is technically, socially, and economically feasible, and to inform the design of a forthcoming Request for Proposals (RFP). We are particularly interested in solutions that can be described as appropriate technology: small-scale, robust, safe to operate, adapted to local skills and needs, and capable of producing outputs or energy forms that are locally valued.
Who Should Attend
1. Private sector actors with:
- experience in waste-to-energy technologies such as incineration, gasification, pyrolysis, or similar
- expertise in systems that utilize generated heat or energy for productive applications
- innvative ideas or products related to starter fuel or enabling components
2. Universities, NGOs, and development organizations with relevant experience, knowledge, or networks that can contribute to the discussion or connect the project to private sector partners
3. Stakeholders interested in future collaboration and potential scaling of the solutions, anticipated from late 2026
What are we looking for in the next phase?
Based on this Market Dialogue, a Request for Proposals (RFP) will be issued to identify one or more private sector partners. Selected partners will be invited to:
- design, develop, and test new or adapted solutions for the treatment of non-recyclable plastic waste
- pilot solutions in selected field locations
- integrate waste management with local employment and income-generating opportunities
